Map the experience
Walk the property at dusk. Identify steps, changes in grade, entries, patios, and views from indoors. Prioritize circulation and gathering areas, then choose a small number of trees, plantings, or textures to highlight.
Build layers instead of brightness
Use different intensities and beam directions for paths, accents, and seating. Shield light sources from direct view and avoid aiming into neighboring windows. Darkness between focal points gives the landscape depth.
Account for change
Plants grow, seasons alter sightlines, and snow can change how light reflects. Ask how fixtures can be adjusted and how maintenance access will work. Plan power and control zones with future changes in mind.
Prepare for a consultation
Collect property photos, a rough plan if available, your priorities, and examples of lighting you like. A designer can use that information to assess placement, power, glare, and installation constraints on site.
This guide explains general lighting considerations. Specific Stag Lighting products and project terms are confirmed during consultation.
